showing Zatoichi respect

Blind Fury is based on an actual episode of Zatoichi where he has to take care of a boy after his mother is killed by road bandits. I wish I knew the episode(somebody help) but it was a good one. Scenes of him walking almost into "poop" is shown at the beginning of the Zatoichi episode. Nevertheless, Blind Fury is a good flick! By the way, there is a new Zatoichi film is being made(same actor)!

The recent Japanese Zatoichi was released earlier this year in France and is coming to limited US release this summer. I can wait for those English subtitles.

That would be Zatoichi 8: Fight Zatoichi Fight. True it was largely based on that one, but it was a general adaption. The dragon fly incident for example, was from Zatoichi 7, where he actually cuts the wings off three small housflies!

I've got them all on DVD(as many as are out so far anyway), awesome movies. I didn't realize until much later that Blind Fury is almost a tribute to Zatoichi.

Zatoichi challenged, I think is the name of the episode. It's cool. I'm watching it right now and I just saw the part where the boy feeds Zatoichi the rock pretending its candy and I was like "Like Blind Fury! That's where they got it!"

And the opening where he narrowly misses stepping in a pile of manure, isn't that from the opening of the first Zatoichi movie? The Tale of Zatoichi.

Now if you should want to call me, use this number. This other one is the old number.

It is indeed Zatoichi 17 - "Zatoichi Challenged" (1967 - 87 Minutes) in which Zatoichi escorts, somewhere, a boy about the age of the young boy in "Blind Fury". It is he who gives Zatoichi the rock for candy. Also the eyebrow cutting scene with the ganster sitting in the cahir in the penthouse was also a takeoff from another Zatoichi movie.

Have you watched the BLIND SWORDSMAN CANE SWORD (Japanese, 1967 with subtitles). I think you will find both writers and director were influenced by this film.
