Special Edition Extra's: worth to buy film for a second time?

I already have Black Rain on dvd and love it. I was just wondering, is it worth it to buy the special edition for the extra's? Are the documentries long or very short? Has it new interviews or archive footage? In other words: is it worth it?

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing actually. Mainly, I was thinking about getting it for the audio commentary by Ridley Scott - anyone have comments on this?

I bought the special edition DVD and i think it's definitely worth the purchase. There are four new featurettes on the DVD, ranging from 29 minutes to 9 minutes. They comprise of new interviews with the cast and crew with some archive interview footage. I find Ridley Scott's audio commentaries always informative. He doesn't dissappoint here. Here are a couple of reviews of the special edition:

I've heard its worth getting simply for a much better video transfer. I hear the original release's quality is no better than VHS.

I've just it on Blu-ray... havent had time to sit and watch it yet. Does anyone know if any deleted footage is shown in the documentaries? The original cut of the film was about 2hours 40mins... it also had a different ending where Sato is killed.... will we ever see any of this?

I remember reading an interview with Tom Rolf (Editor) who said he would love to revisit Black Rain because of all the footage that was cut.

reply

No, there are no deleted scenes shown. However, director Ridley Scott did make one minor change on this new release and that is at the start of the film. I brought this up in the Slight change on Special Edition DVD? post.
