'They have lights at Wrigly field now'

That line strikes me a little odd every time I see this movie. Is it suppose to be significant in any way?

reply

Significant to the plot of the film? No.

When Nick (Douglas) first meets Joyce (Capshaw), she tells him she is from Chicago. In real life, Wrigley Field is a baseball stadium in Chicago. Wrigley Field never had lights installed for night games, until 1988.

The Wrigley Field line is considered dated now.

reply

No it isn't.

reply

Yes, b/c it speaks directly to how long Joyce (Kate Capshaw), whose character is originally from Chicago, has been away from home in Japan. For those who've never worked and lived abroad as an expat -- particularly in Asia -- this is just one of the ways fellow expats measure each other up instantly when asking how long someone has been in country.
