This film was gorgeous to look at! Plus it nailed the whole 1980s Japanese aesthetic perfectly.

Jan de Bont is extremely talented here with all of the varied lighting setups and the use of color for mood. This must have been a really hard film to shoot.

True, but the finale is kind of cheap looking...

Also this:
Howard Atherton shot most of the film, but he got so frustrated in Japan that he resigned. Jan de Bont was brought in to finish the rest of the film.
