Seriously, when the easygoing Garcia gets killed out of nowhere in such unexpected f-ud up manner trapped like an animal in a slaughterhouse, it really raises the stakes. If Douglas' motives were flimsy up to that point, now it's personal...
And yeah, Garcia was acting like an idiot when running after the stupid coat (they'll give him another f-ing passport), but that actually successfully points out his character's (bad) traits.
