The sound effects in this film, especially the gunfire, are awesome. I understand that they were nominated for an Academy Award, it should have won. One of my favorite moments in the film is when Nick is fighting Sato in that muddy forest. The sound of him punching sounds like an explosion. Sooooo cool.

This is a weird thing with sound effects in this movie. They're very old sound effects (just compare these to Die Hard, wich came out a year earlier!!!), yet, they sound very cool and very well edited. Absolutetly deserved it's nomination.
shareThere were two old sound effects from that movie. The first one was the Japanese police cars were heading towards the Japanese night club crime scene, and the second one were the Japanese threw Nick onto one of their police cars at the steel mill plant when he was chasing Sato. In both cases, the Japanese police cars had the police sound that was used by the SWAT vehicle in the 1970s show SWAT when the SWAT team move out at the beginning of each show and throughout the episodes.
The other sound effort was the last Japanese police car coming to the Japanese night club and it was using the old American police siren that was used in the 1960s cartoon show The Dick Tracy show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebkHaqK3J50
I like the scene about the Japanese SWAT bus having two different sounds coming out of it - one of them sounded like a European police siren from the 1950s to the 1970s.
