Do Tim Burton and Prince have a lot more in common than you may think?

I don't know exactly what and how Tim Burton felt about Prince's music being tied to Batman 1989, but I recently read a comment on Reddit that argued that Prince was like the Tim Burton of music:

I always say this but to me the best example will always be Prince. He’s like the Tim Burton of music in that when he has a lot of oversight and people to keep him in line and mediate his worst tendencies he produces amazing stuff but when he’s allowed to call the shots you get stuff that’s meandering, overly indulgent, extremely self serving and wildly overproduced. Basically all of the Prince albums after he left his label have me going “this is undeniably interesting and produced by someone with exceptional skills but fuck if I want to hear more than ten minutes of it ever”.

I take it that Batman Returns for example, is akin to Prince's post-Warner Bros. stuff like Emancipation and The Rainbow Children.
