The Old Country? What country is that?
shareFrom Wikipedia:
It is unknown where Grampa (Abraham Simpson) was born. He claims that he came to America as a boy from the "old country", but he cannot remember which country it was, although most likely it was the United Kingdom or Ireland.

So ... Homer is probably of British/Irish and Scandinavian descent.
Good points. I think as originally conceived he was suppose to be a mix of a few northern European ethnic groups. Would not surprise me if there was some French and German in there somewhere. My wife's mother's family started out in France but crossed the English Channel during the Norman Invasion in 1066 and stayed until North America opened up during the 1600's. Genes further got mixed after the Plague among Scandinavian and Baltic countries.
