Updated animation for older episodes?

I was watching the chilli episode from season 8 on Sky One last week and was struck that the animation looked different than normal. It definitely wasn't the same as used in the original. I thought it might have been because it was on Sky One HD, but it was the same on the normal Sky One channel. Did anyone happen to see this and notice how odd it looked?

IIRC, the animation look was updated sometime around season 2, then again around season 7 or 8, then it became computerized around season 13 or 14. I forget the exact seasons where the animation look changes did happen, for sure.

The high definition era(including the show's newer opening) started around the middle of season 20 or sometime during season 21, I believe.

I always liked the older episodes, at least seasons 1-13(ish). Though season 14 and 15 were pretty good. Granted the first season had not so great animation, but they were still good episodes.

When FXX got the syndication rights, they went and gave the old episodes a face lift. So maybe that's what you saw.

[FXX] previously announced that the Simpsons episodes had been "digitally remastered" with an "HD update" to 16:9. But it seems FXX thinks turning something into HD is as easy as cropping off the top and bottom. The network also went through and color corrected each episode, which longtime fans with keen eyes have likely noticed.

It's not a case of the animation just evolving over the years, it was a definite change to how the animation was originally it that particular episode. The above poster may be correct. It looked updated, but it actually made the whole episode look cruder somehow, as if the colour looked digitised but the actual Simpson characters looked really poor, like they did in the first season. Someone else must have seen this last week on Sky One! Haha.
