Question about "How the Tess Was Won" episode

It was on last night. Early in the episode, Sam (as "Doc") climbs into a white jeep and drives to "his" house. How would he have known where to go and which vehicle to choose? After all, he didn't know who he was yet (except for the fact, he was referred to as "Doc") Did I miss something? I've seen the episode before (in its' original run and in reruns), but never really noticed that before.

He realised he was a vet as he was being asked about the pigs. He actually drove past his house at first but then spotted the mailbox which I had some letters on it to indicate that it was local vets house or something.

Pure pot luck he happened to be heading in the right direction on the right road though.

reply

Ok, thanks. That just totally threw me. Thanks for the explanation!

If I recall there were no other vehicles around when "Doc" left the ranch, so since the Jeep was the only vehicle there he assumed it was his...and yes as he's driving down the road, Sam remarks (not sure what the exact verbage is) that sometimes its hard to figure out who you are and where you are going, other times not, as he passed the mailbox that said "Daniel Young, DVM" on it....

I remember seeing other vehicles, but not the mailbox!😃

Also in the mirror the DOC is wearing glasses but Sam isn't. Also when he leaps into someone with glasses how can he see with them? Or fit in other people's clothes that are smaller than him like Dr. Ruth. That's stuff I never got. It should have just been his soul that leaped...Bellisario always said "It's just a TV show."

This was the only time, to my knowledge, when the person Sam leapt into had glasses, that Sam wasn't physically wearing them. That part of the episode always bugged me for that reason; along with him being there to help with the lyrics to Peggy Sue. That pretty much ruined an otherwise fairly decent episode. Season 1 was a little rough, still trying to find its footing. "Play It Again Seymour," is another one that had strong potential, but then ending it with him launch an author was dumb; and while it might have fit the genre, it doesn't make sense for Sam to light up a cigarette at one point.

As for the clothes though, the general thought tends to be along the lines that some element of the physical aura that makes him look and sound like the other person, warps the space immediately around his body, to some degree, to make things fit to his proportions. Dr. Ruth arguably stretched credulity the most on that. That, and the chimp.
At least they never got around to him leaping into a baby, like had been rumored for season 6.

I used to love this show but now have a hard time watching it. One of the best was MIA.

I LOVE that episode too!!

Yes, the glasses thing annoyed me too.

But I got into Quantum Leap half way through it's run, then watched the earlier episodes at a later date. I think this being so early in the shows run, they hadn't finalised everything about the show yet. Maybe it occurred that for the leapee to be wearing glasses, Sam would have to be wearing them also at a later date.

It's basically just a continuity error.

Funny you say that cause I can think of another episode where he wears glasses. The one from the first season where he leaps into a college professor who happens to go to the same University a woman he loved went to. And part of the premise of the episode is that he's trying to get this woman and her dad back together so that maybe his future can be changed and he can make it so she didn't leave him.
