Nice! But as terrible as this may sound, I hope that they will have Steve and Laura be divorced by now.

- Carl Winslow is a freshly retired cop, but is struggling with the social issues of the day. He's proud of his time served on the police force, but he also firmly stands behind "Black Lives Matter." He longs for the old days, when he and his family could deal with problems with a hug and a talk. So when some of his family members are in need of help, he gets them to move in or around him.

- Steve was a scientist working for the government, but was recently terminated. He had developed a cure for COVID-19, but accidentally knocked the one and only sample down the sink. As he was trying to sponge it up, he tripped over his own chair, knocked out the router, and then dropped the wet sponge onto his laptop, destroying the formula once and for all. He then bumped his head on the counter, lost consciousness, and temporarily lost the past four and half years of his memory. When someone told him Trump was President, he laughed, and then Trump fired him.

- Laura, who married Steve, helped her husband regain his memory. But she's become a little resentful in her middle-age. She misses her Dad (they've been living in DC for a good while) and wants her kids to grow up with him in their lives. She also longs for Stefan - the suave and sexy Steve - who no longer exists. She has spent most of her marriage hoping that Stefan would manifest through Steve but no luck. Laura, now the breadwinner since Steve has been blacklisted, has made the decision to move her family back to Chicago. She buys the house next to Carl's.

- Eddie became a journalist in college and was doing pretty well working for the Tribune. But because journalism being what it is now, he's had to try and readjust his plans. He's doing generally okay; he has two kids but divorced his wife a few years back. He spends a lot of time at Carl's, helping to keep up the place. He also hangs out with Waldo a lot.

Seriously, I don't believe that Steve would mess up that terribly.
No matter how bad his clumsiness seemed to be, it was generally played for laughs and never hurt anybody.
Thus, I don't believe that any writers would let the background story be that dark.
I must agree that Laura probably would become resentful, but I don't think the writers would go there either.
They would rather let us believe that Laura and Steve are soul mates in a neverending matrimonial bliss (groan).
And as for Eddy becoming a journalist, I don't believe that that would happen either.
Someone seems to have forgotten that Eddy dropped out of College and became a police officer like his father.

It's only inevitable I assume.
