Why do they never ask 'Why is there a camera'
I feel like that would be one of the first things I'd ask.
I feel like that would be one of the first things I'd ask.
there was one old episode where a guy asks if he was gonna be on TV, it was an old episode from Portland (Multnomah County) where a drug dealer got busted and fails to show up to the officers meeting to set up a drug deal with another dealer, they later catch him at the end of the segment when they've realized he was a major drug supplier.
shareI have always wondered this too...even the friendly people who are drunk/under the influence don't mutter a "durr why are you here." Also, the episodes where the culprit is outta control and violent...not once have I seen them yell "Get the camera out of my face," or anything.
The closest thing I have ever seen that involves the camera and/or the man behind the camera was in Season 22, episode 1...Guy is on cloud 9 with meth driven strength and gets pinned by a first responding cop, the guy roars and just rips the cop off him, nails the cop in the face (sending the cops shades off), and knocks the cop flat on his ass and jumps on him. The camera man then sets down the camera to try to help pull the guy off him. He quickly picks up the camera and you can see the COPS team sound editor, Hank Barr, and two plain clothes firemen holding the meth driven madman to the ground.
I have always also wondered where the line is drawn to where the COPS team will help the officer they're riding with. I always felt kinda bad in those situations where the cop could use some help but the camera man does nothing just to capture the moment, but, I'm sure they have to sign stuff saying that if they get hurt or even shot the police cannot be help responsible.
I think they are asked quite a bit, but the editing just cuts those few seconds out of the clip.
shareI'm sure they cut it out to make us forget about the camera and put us "in the scene". I've always imagined many officers also say something about "You know you were just filmed doing that." (aside from the hidden camera stings) and they edit that out too.
Today was a man repeatedly hitting his face on the hood of a car while an officer held him from behind and he was acting like the officer was pounding him! Stpid. Of course drunk also, so maybe he didn't realize the officer was filmed trying to stop the man from hitting himself!
@Blue_Eyes_James I remember that guy, he was in Cops Reloaded s01e16. "Why'd you do that for?"

I think they just edit it out whenever they can. It's weird though, on that show Bait Car, people say it all the time!
shareBecause then Chris Hansen would have to pop up and you do not want Chris Hansen to pop out and interrogate.
For all who may need a refresher, Chris Hansen was the guy on To Catch a Predator!
Better watch out, better start crying. Better hurry up, run and hide. Krampus is coming to town! >:)
