DeLorean and Tucker similarities

Both Tucker and DeLorean were innovative sports car designers who overreached in Shakespearian proportions and were ultimately victims of their own devices. Both were producing the coolest, most modern designs ever seen. Both were essentilly corrupt. And both ended their careers in Nixon-like disgrace, another genius who overreached and brought humiliatio0n upon himself. Even Clinton fell upon his own sword and joined the others, albeit for inanely minute sexual peccadillos which were to cause him more grief than any of the misdeeds George Bush created for himself.

That's an interesting take on the story of Preston Tucker, considering how many people swallow the mythologized version that says he was a victim of the greedy big car companies and their friends in Washington D.C., who allegedly conspired to put Tucker out of business because his car was "too good."

Although I wouldn't call either the Tucker or the DeLorean one of "the coolest, most modern designs ever seen," your angle is closer to the truth.

All the universe . . . or nothingness. Which shall it be, Passworthy? Which shall it be?

DeLorean, yes, Tucker, not as far as I know. His life did not end in disgrace; he went on pursuing his dreams.

The DeLorean was hardly the most advance car of its time, and the Tucker Torpedo was not a sports car.

The DeLorean had a 2.8 litre V6, which was too small for the size of the car. The Texas company that owns the rights to the DeLorean, which is manufacturing new DeLorean DMC 12s, is using a twin turbo engine instead of the original engine, and even the one in Back to the Future had a Porsche engine.

The Delorean was not the first to have gull wing doors, and was definitely not the first to have the engine in the rear. That honour goes to the Beetle, which was designed during the war, and thus before the Tucker.
