The Bicycles

I just watched this movie and I found it brilliant. There is just something very minute that is bothering me, and I was hoping someone could help me clear this up. When Rex is first looking frantically around the gas station for Saskia, he returns to his car at one point and the bicycles that were on top of the car are missing. But when Raymond recounts the abduction, there is no mention if where those bicycles went. Did I miss something? What happened to them? (I warned you that this was trivial!)

The idea, I think, is just that the bikes had been stolen. They were two expensive-looking road bikes and he'd left them unattended while he was frantically searching for Saskia. Once, I stupidly left an expensive bike locked up in a suburban RER station on the outskirts of Paris. When I got back, the wheel was still there, locked to the railing, but the rest of the bike had gone!

I signed in to ask ... Why didn't Rex take one of the bikes to get gas? ... it would have been much faster!
