So she died in like 84 right?
And then 4 years later theres a movie about her?
She was just a porn 'actress'. Why did she a get a movie about her and so quickly too?

Probably because the story has the making of a fairly typical television movie: young pretty girl, sex, drugs, death.
That and her parents sold the story to a writer who got the film made.
My guess is her parents saw a chance to make money off the story. that was her life wasn't totally worthless.
shareYou're an idiot, your pastime is to offend a girl that died and did absolutely nothing to you

She obviously saw she had no worth beyond porn. Otherwise she would not have committed suicide. Couldn't use a dime of the money she made to go to school, learn something to fall back on? (Like her original agent advised her to do?) That's right, all her money went up her nose.
By the way, needing to resort to name-calling and insults is a sure sign someone is an idiot.
Is that directed at me? I'm not offended she has a movie about her, I'm just curious as to why her. Every year there are people who die in porn yet movies don't get made about then. I just found it curious. I really like the movie and I think her story is interesting.
shareWho knows? I for one am glad they made the movie because I love it and I'm watching it now.
Let Polly do the printing
The 80s were the height of Afterschool Specials, Just Say No and TV movies. I'm thinking her parents wanted a movie out in hopes to save someone else's child. Also to make parents aware of the dangers out there. I'm sure they felt if it could happen with their child it could happen anyone's.
shareThe story of Shauna Grant/Collen Applegate was huge news in the early 80s. At the time, it was a very unique story and one that really caught the attention of middle America.
You also have to consider the political climate in the early 80s, Reagan had been elected President and his Attorney General Edwin Meese was on a crusade to outlaw pornography. This story played right into his hands.
Its not surprising that a TV movie was made about this, and a very good one IMO.
Shauna/Collen's story would become fairly common place as the years wore on, but at the time, it was a very big deal.
