Is this the worst Christmas movie ever?

Hard to think of a worse one. It's tedious, dull, and not worth being named after the classic Christmas Carol film or its character.

I think the main problem is that there is no motivation. It's modernism, which means one dimensional characters with zero motivation, just doing what is in a script. Nothing is credible, and it's impossible to give a hoot. The original Ebenezer Scrooge was credibly motivated throughout the short story and each film. There is nothing even remotely motivated about any lead character here.

On the good side, it isn't overly depressing, so I give it 2/10, which I agree is generous, but it still is the worst Christmas movie ever, making the Santa Claus Martian movie look good in comparison, and that's a 3/10 movie.

Nothing against the actors. I agree with you all that it is the script that is pathetic here, and it can't be salvaged, and shouldn't be salvaged.

Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

***sigh***
Of course just about every board on this site has to have a "worst movie ever" thread. So an un-congratulations to you for posting this dreck.
I'm so sure that your "2/10" is generous. Haha, you even said that "you agree" it's generous. Now I think you are simply going for laughs and you aren't even posting anything to be taken seriously.

Just doing what's in the script? That's what actors do much of the time--- follow a script. This shocks you?
Modernism? What, did you just pluck a word off of your "word of the day" calendar and decide to include that in your nonsensical post?

There is plenty of motivation coming from the Murray character. Did you even watch the movie? Or just come here to say things like actors, scripts, and other industry terms?

No more posting for you. We will stop assuming your level of intelligence and go with the lowest legal limit.

That would make 3 Christmas' I've saved, vs. 8 that I've ruined; two were kind of a draw..

It's got some good moments but the ending ruins it.

Murray's transformation is pathetic. Even Murray admits it. He wanted to be more subtle but Richard Donner wanted more and more.

Cross stops a TV show so he can be the centre of attention and go on what seems like a cocaine fuelled rant for five minutes.

I wouldn't use Bill Murray's judgement as a selling or spoiling point. This is basically a parody and was never supposed to be George C. Scott's Christmas Carol. The whole movie is a zany comedy, not just the end. It is absolutely fitting!

reply

The sudden transformation was bad, but I actually liked the rant at the end.

Relax it's a comedy spoofing a Christmas Carol. Does a very fine job of it too. You are in the my already on this one. Lol

reply

No, that would be Jingle All The Way. Unwatchable piece of sh!t.

reply

Jingle All The Way is great!

I'm sure some people hate it while others like me love it. Everyone is different.

What is even the point in saying a movie is the "worst ever" when you most likely haven't seen every movie of a given genre? If we're going purely off consensus, it seems to me that Scrooged is a fairly well-liked movie.

Pleased to offer for your consideration:

Saving Christmas (2014)
Kirk Cameron wins the War on Christmas!  This one has the extra distinction of having the lowest rating on IMDb (1.5/10, which is 0.3 points lower than that classic nature film, Birdemic: Shock and Terror (2010)

Magic Christmas Tree (1964)
A heartwarming story (or was that just heartburn?) about a magical Christmas tree that talks with a lisp, in a film with all the production values of those short films they used to show on MST3K before the movie.

And here's one website's opinion of the 20 worst, most of which I thankfully have not seen. Many of these show up on other lists of worst Christmas movies:

The first part of the article also goes into detail about how Saving Christmas ended up with such a low rating.

Star Wars Christmas special?

If you don't like the show, stop watching it!

Ironically, you are a Scrooge for not seeing or mentioning the good in Scrooged. I think it's the 'It's a wonderful life' of the 1980s. Groundhog Day (which is fun but doesn' do enough with the concept) is more overrated than this ever was.

Great thoughts picnic. Completely agree.
