Just a fleeting observation, I just watched GHD for the first time..but I haven't seen Scrooged since opening week in Nov, 1988:
In both movies Bill Murray initially plays a cold-hearted cynic but through a series of unpleasant events he sees himself in the mirror and decides to change his life from an unlikable cynic to a lovable optimist.
"There is no Hollywood any more, there's just a bunch of banks"
One's based on Dickins and one's based on Ramis.
shareYeah, also Larger than Life that Murray did in 1996 is similar in that they all follow this format:
Bill plays a character that is materialistic and usually nasty and he gets into a forced situation he doesn't like (Scrooged it was the 3 ghosts, GD it was living the same day over and over again until he gets it right, and Larger that Life it was handling his inheritance, which was an elephant). He now has to handle the situation the best he can and by doing so, is a better person at the end.
Interesting, I never heard of Larger than Life.

well "groundhog day" is way superior i find after re watching this, the scene with the television bosses hearing scientists talk about cats and dogs beginning to watch television and they plan to cash in on it was the funniest part of the movie. since this is a modern setting with a tv executive it feels already tiresome to start with since in real life you're constantly fed this and i just don't buy him changing, i prefer the movie setting with a western tale, maybe this version worked better decades ago when there weren't a hundred channels around, by the way i guess a western movie makes it hard to use product placements, i forgot how poor this version was, and in the big city the people are behaving just as poorly as "scrooge", i was shocked the woman he's talking promos with was just as up beat about the old lady dying from being upset by his christmas special, when is she gonna change? already 15 minutes in this scrooge has met the first spirit, and 30 minutes in he's already changed, find another version not to get screwed, it's a pity this is the only version of this story that i've seen air in my country recent years, to be fair the strong parts in this is him coming back when he think he's about to die toward the end, but i guess that's thanks to dickens, depending on your frame of reference i don't know how the last part will move you, but i've always liked the 1998 version, since this is a mainstream movie not turning out better i don't think i've given the 1998 movie with jack palance "ebenezer" enough slack, this is mostly so rocky and mainstream it sort of becomes the very thing it's suppose to speak against, after 40 minutes he's changed and i guess this guy is suppose to be serving the christmas message for another two hours with commercial breaks...
