just aw this on abc family and have a weird question

when the ghost of past takes him to his boyhood home and frank says his father hasn't put up the lights yet, in the abc family version, he says "for satans sake" and in the dvd he says "for christs sake". why does the family channel think its ok to say satans sake but they wouldnt allow "christs sake"?

and when the censor says she cant allow this costume on air, in the family channel version, she says "you can see her nipples", but when shes knocked out, they don't allow frank to say "make sure her nipples are covered up".

Its called the family channel. Same reason they dont allow bill murray to say "but you kicked me in the balls" after carol kane kicks him.

reply

ok if its a family channel then why do they allow them to say "for satans sake" and not "christs sake"?

reply

Because there's no age old TV censor clause about taking Lucifer's name in vain.

reply

HAHA I actually was surprised in a Christmas movie they would say Christs name like that. if anything that's the only problem I have with the movie, at times it had unneeded vulgarity. beyond that, I don't have a problem with satas name in vain LOL

Realism, Remakes and Unnecessary Sequels are ruining movies!

reply

Splitting hairs, but profanity is anything involving taking the Lord's name in vain (eg "Goddamn") while vulgarity is any of the Anglo-Saxon terms used by the commoners (the Vulgate) in post-Norman England, versus the "proper" Latin-based terms (eg "sh*t" rather than "defecate").

I don't have an answer for you SGG however this is one thing that really annoys me about films and when they are shown. For me it is very simple. If the tv channel who is broadcasting does not believe it is suitable to be shown at a specific time or has something they do not like it should not air at all. I hate all this censoring, either show it in all its gory glory or don't bother.

reply

I have seen that edited. Maybe the original way sounds a little offensive and this way you are offending devil worshippers, but who cares about them?

reply

Well, I do because they are people too and they don't have a track record of war, paedophilia, torture and misery like Christianity does.
