Why I hate this movie

It's not the fact that it's too dark. Dickens wrote this as a ghost story. It's the fact that the dark humor overtakes the narrative and is dark to be dark. The character development is forced and not even believed. During the credits, the guy is STILL an *beep* The comedy is so over the top that it distracts from the material. The scene where this movie became one of the worst was when the employee came back into the office with a gun. It blurred the line to who was the good guy and bad guy and a "okay, here's your job back won't cut it". If they wanted to do this, then cut the redeemability part of the film all together.

At least with the Gremlins franchise, you knew the tone and what you were getting.

Imo, this is one of the worst Christmas films out there.

reply

Fair enough you didn't like it. Movies are subjective but personally I love it.

reply

I disagree.

This is one of my favorite Christmas movies.

reply

Oh god no. This is one of my favorites.

reply

I'm sorry but that's just sad, friend. Scrooged is one of the best Christmas comedy classics of the last 30 years, right after A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation.

Get off your soapbox while I play you a tune on the tiniest violin.

reply

I love Christmas Vacation so your right in here with me bro. A persons not sad because of a movie choice.

reply

Although I don't agree with all your points, I've always thought this film was very overrated - solid, but certainly not the classic many think it is.

reply

>It's the fact that the dark humor overtakes the narrative and is dark to be dark.

Or it's dark to be truthful. But it's not your truth. Nor is it literal truth, but dark comic truth. Because some of us will remain Scrooge.

reply

I agree with you Torres and find it funny posters act like you are "wrong" for having an opinion that differs from their own.

reply

Disagree. The darkness needs to be countered, and a comedy of this sort works wonders for it.

All straight in the modern world would have been all dark, and just horrible to watch.
