I was pretty much bald by the time is was 17/18, definitely had a severe receding hairline by then. Can't beat genetics, lol.

Same thing happened to one of my brother inlaws. He was just about bald before he hit 20. It happens

reply

I began having a receding hairline at age 16, but its been very slow and gradual. Im 33 now and still havent reached the level of Patrick Stewart on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Yeah, this was a poor choice on the part of the Writers/Director. It would have made a lot more sense to push it to 1977/1978. I think they were going for more of a nostalgic feeling. When the movie was made in 1988 I doubt there was much nostalgia for the seventies, it was too recent. So they chose 1968/1969 instead, the math just doesn't add up. Bill Murray is clearly supposed to be in his mid to late twenties in the flashback.

But see, that creates a whole other problem. Putting the party in the late 70s gives Frank less than a decade to become president of the network.

That's true. That sequence probably should have been set in the early 70s. Like 72/73. Frank would have been in his early 20s and it would still give him about 15 years to become president.

I always assumed that Frank was working as an intern at the network while still in high school or possibly after graduating early due to exceptional performance in order to get an early start on his chosen career path, so having him be 17 years old at the time was certainly consistent, as was having him play an uncredited part on a kids' show three years later. Since his father was depicted as being cold and unsympathetic, it makes perfect sense that once Frank was old enough, he would make every effort not to turn out like his father, ironically doing so ultimately in the process...

"...And on this farm he had an igloo..."

Yes. And the insane work ethic his dad instilled in him of getting a job when he's 4 probably pushed him to work crazy early.

reply

It kind of has to work that way. He was balding early in life. Yeah, he doesn't pass for a kid, but it's necessary that he's an intern working hard to get full time employment with actual pay.

I've known people who went bald in high school. I used to work with a guy who was about 22 or so and looked like he was 50. He started his combover at 15.

Agree - a lot of people start balding at that age. What they should have done though was to fit Murray with a hair piece and a lot of Scotch tape to try to make him look a bit younger.

reply

It’s a film with ghosts in it so why get hung up on whether he looks 17 or not. Just go with it and enjoy the ride.
