Yes, and it's a shame the Taliban went so downhill in the years since. They were so nice when it was US vs USSR. But I guess they changed.
shareI think after they defeated the Russians, the Mujahideen split into two with the bad half becoming the Taliban. In this movie Rambo's supposed to be fighting alongside the people whom the Taliban would eventually be in a civil war with (the trivia section for Rambo III says the guy playing the leader of the rebels is based on a real guy who fought Osama's Taliban).
It's funny that tons of people think Rambo's with Osama in this haha. It's an 80s fantasy comic book movie that predates 9/11 by 13 years. Even it was the real Taliban you'd ignore it since it's not too dissimilar to watching OJ Simpson in a movie whilst knowing he would become a sadistic killer.
