Shot in Israel !!

Yeah, pretty spectacular scenery. It was shot in Chiang Mai (Thailand), Imperial Country (California) and Yuma (Arizona) - the latter two places doubling for Israel in the final battle scene in the valley.

The location shooting really does give the film an epic, classical look & scale. I wonder if any action movies before or since spanned such an extensive distance? Definitely makes Rambo III look and feel unique.

Parts were also filmed in Pakistan as well apparently. I think they filmed Beast of War (1988) in Israel too.

They were going to film the whole thing there and got a lot of impressive exterior shots in before the production got kicked out of the country for some reason. They then had to shift to Yuma Arizona to shoot the climax, hence why there are the fake T-72s from RED DAWN there instead of the authentic T-55's that were used in their actual base.
