Basically Rambo teaming up with Bin Laden

The Afghani freedom fighters portrayed in this film are the same ones we were training and arming to fight the Soviets in the 80's. Then they turned around, used our training, and flew planes into the WTC. Way to go, Rambo. Maybe next time stick to Vietnam vet rescues...

The character in this movie called Masoud (the chief Afghan dude) is actually based on a real person who ended up fighting Bin Laden. The mujahedeen eventually split into two and fought a civil war, and I guess you could say Rambo fought alongside the good side in this movie.

Buckle up back there, we're going into... hyperactive

The Russian are only good side in this pathetic movie.

Let me explain it to you.

After the Soviets pull out in 1989, the Mujahideen fought against the Communist regime of Najibullah until 1992.

April 1992, Mujahideen take Kabul but almost immediately, the country descends into vicious factional civil war built on ethnic and political lines. This is mainly between the ethnically dominated Pashtun Hebz-i-Islami party led by Hekmatyar (who mercilessly shells Kabul for total control between 1992 and 1995) and Massoud's Tajik faction. The latter, manage to form a government known as the Islamic State of Afghanistan - No relation to ISIS, and is a moderate regime.

1994, Pakistan forms TALIBAN for its own geostrategic aspirations in Central Asia.

September 1996, Taliban seize Kabul and Massoud's government (Mujahideen in Rambo III) pull back to the north of the country to prevent further conflict. In that same year, the anti-Taliban factions form the Northern Alliance to combat the Taliban. Massoud's government is recognized as the legitimate government of Afghanistan at the UN and gains funding and arms from India, Iran, Russia and most of the Central
Asian states.

The Taliban host al-Qaeda, and Massoud's government on many occasions notifies the U.S. of the dangers posed to the world from the Taliban-al Qaeda relationship. Washington on many occasions refuses to acknowledge this.

Come 9/11 and subsequent U.S. invasion of Afghanistan. Washington overthrows Taliban with Northern Alliance (former Mujahideen) December 2002 comes the Bonn Agreement. Here, an interim Afghan government is setup, with all ethnic groups represented. In effect, today's Afghan government forms the former Mujahideen.

The Mujahideen were viciously anti-Taliban, anti-al-Qaeda. Just thought I should explain it. The idea of Rambo working with the Taliban and al-Qaeda is one of the biggest misconceptions of Afghanistan these days, since both Northern Alliance and Taliban were pitted in a heavy civil war against one another.

I suggest you read "Ghost Wars" by Steve Coll, including "Taliban" and "Descent into Chaos" both by Ahmed Rashid.

They should put this post at the end of the movie, sort of like a disclaimer for people thinking Rambo is fighting alongside bin laden in the movie haha.

I am Djour Djilios. could you spell that please? I don't think so. Try it with a "D".

Answer me one question, Binkconn...
Are you US American?
Because this level of ignorance and indoctrination is usually found in the US.

reply

You must be American. Learn some history, and some facts about countries outside your own.

'Then' and 'than' are different words - stop confusing them.

reply

Before shooting your mouth off Learn a Little History...
The Character Massoud is in reference to Ahmad Shah Massoud, he fought against the Taliban and Al Qaeda before it became him to do so... And as a Consequence he was assasinated by Al Qaeda Scumbags TWO DAYS BEFORE September 11...

So In essence... Rambo was fighting FOR the NORTHERN ALLIANCE even before it became "In"

You're thinking of Saudi Arabia which trained, funded and supplied most of the 9/11 hijackers.
