Friday the 13th was not the first slasher movie by a long shot.
Somewhere there's a land of peace, acceptance, love, and equality. Pray they don't allow humans.
You are correct. halloween was the first popular one. I mixed those two. although some say that Psycho was the first slasher movie, i would not consider it a slasher, as there is only one death.

Texas chainsaw masacre was before it too.

That is correct. However very rarely i hear Texas Chainsaw Massacre counted as a slasher film. It also does not follow the slasher genre formula and is unique on its own right.

I don't even consider Halloween a "slasher" film. To me, and this is just my opinion, is that it's more of a horror and psychological film than the slasher vibe. Yes, he did kill with a knife, but for the most part the film plays on every sense of your being as opposed to TCM or Friday the 13th.
shareWell Psycho is a psychological horror thriller but its considered the first Slasher film out there.

I think Psycho was the original slasher, gotta love the irony that Leigh's daughter was in Halloween, another classic slasher film.
"I am the ultimate badass, you do not wanna `*beep*` wit me!"- Hudson in Aliens.
It wasnt though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirteen_Women was the first known one. Granted, Psycho was the one who popularized the genre before Halloween took it over and made it mainstream.

I don't know of any direct influence between the two, but they do fit together nicely in style and subject.
