the dirty kids at the beginning

now i know only about 18 people will read this since all these not brand new horror movies have empty boards. but the thing that bothered me about this movie was that in the beginning it showed those kids with the torn, old, dirty clothes and the dirt on their faces but they all had perfect shining white teeth. wouldnt redneck kids who cant even afford clothes that are les than 20 years old have like yellow crooked teeth?

Yes you are right. The teeth should have been as nasty looking as their clothes. The movie was on Sci Fi tonight and I thought the same thing, especially about the oldest hill billy boy. His teeth were perfect, straight, white and damn near shining. He should have had atleast a missing tooth if it was going to be believable.

you don't really think they'd mess up their teeth, considering they didn't have that kind of make up and effects technology back in the day. it's low budget anyhow, but still despite that the film was spectacular in my opinion. a good watch!

back then I am sure they had the "Bubba Teeth" they are available in all local vending machines. Even back in the day they could have done something with FX to dirty up the teeth on a non permanent basis. Besides that they had enough budget to make a pretty scary pumpkin head monster. They could have made the teeth dirty, its entirely possible. I liked the movie just thought the teeth detracted from that particular scene.

didnt have that kind of makeupback in the day? this movie came out in 1988 not 1934...i mean geez...lol

anyway the funniest part is that one of those dirty kids is played by mayim bialik, the future Blossom herself..lol

No way! Blossom a dirty hick! Actually...not that far of a stretch. I always thought that Blossom was a little homely.
Mayim Bialik-is she a doctor now?

La la la...linoleum!

That scene when the white trash kids first appear is hilarious. These *beep* are dirt poor hahahaha.

XD at whoever said they didn't have the effects back then. If they could do stuff like actually make the Pumpkinhead creature then surely they could have made teeth look rotten.

You don't know much about hills people, do you? I have relatives all through the South, including Appalachia. They never went to a dentist and have beautiful teeth. It's a matter of genetics, not dentistry. Those children wouldn't be eating sweets and drinking colas. All they'd need is a frayed twig or even a bit of cloth and baking soda. Do you think people of the past went around yellow-toothed, decayed or gapped? Some might have had problems, but most did just fine without dentists, which weren't always commonly found in towns and cities.

Yes, they might be grungy, as most places might not have running water. But, that doesn't mean they should have been made up to have bad teeth. I know people in places like that, and the majority have healthy teeth till old age. They eat simple foods and not junk like the average person you know.

Yes, in fact tooth infections and various gum diseases were a big cause of pain and death for centuries. Genetics has very little to do with healthy teeth once they are in your mouth and exposed to bacteria.

It came out in 1988 not the stone age. Of Course they had the makeup and effects technology.

I know, it's the little details like that that drive me nuts too. They could at least have had those kids have some orange soda & Doritos first. I'm completely serious - that would have helped!
