This needs a special edition two-disc release

Equipped with a buttload of special features including retrospective documentaries, commentaries, and the original cut of the film along with the original score. Considering how badly this film flopped back in the day, I know this is all just a pipe dream, but I can still wish for it, right?

reply

Well, Jerry Goldsmith never did a score for P3...that was just a false rumor.

But, feel free to join my Facebook group:

Wow, I didn't know that. Oh, well, I still hope to see P3 get a decent Blu-Ray/DVD release some day.

reply

Your wish came true, except the it`s not a SE. The only "special feature" is a trailer, but i don`t count that as one.

Look here: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=MGXJ-17048

I will import it. I think the price is also pretty good.

There are actual photographs of the original ending and it looks by far better than the ending that we got. Had it not been for the bogus, reshot ending.. this film would have been a lot better.

However even with the photos, the director still doesn't admit (at least to my knowledge) that the original ending was filmed. Why deny it?

reply

Until we get a SE, my web site is the next best thing (with info the studio would likely never want to discuss on a DVD anyway):

http://www.poltergeistIII.com

You can see the photos from the original ending there as well.

Although, it is cool that the upcoming BluRay will likely have a 5.1 soundtrack.

reply

There's some really great info on that site. Thanks for the link!

reply

Thanks for linking your website. Reading about the alternate ending and seeing the many pictures that PROVE it was filmed was very interesting. I agree that it sounds better. I don't understand why the director is a liar who claims the footage was never shot when CLEARLY it was. Grieving over Heather is no reason to lie.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

I really wish they would do a special edition for all 3 films
and include "The Curse of Poltergeist" documentary as one
of the extras.

reply

It would be nice to see what was re-shot and why! IF MGM is too cheap to spring for a Special Edition Dvd then that the director record an audio comentary.

reply

yes. right up there with 2001, CITIZEN KANE and THE MALTESE FALCON, this deserves a bazingo Special Edition

Heads up - Scream Factory have announced that they are releasing collectors editions of part II and part III.
I'm very curious to what the extras will be on these releases, both supposedly have quite a few deleted scenes and P3 has the alternate ending (I definitely won't hold my breath on that being an extra though), Scream factory usually does a great job with the extras, I hope they put in the effort for these two.
