I love this movie and my dream is to go to Mystic one day to look up some locations. You people talk about some locations in Rhode Island. May I ask how far this place Rhode Island (is it an island?) is from Mystic? And can you further tell me, how expensive it is to get from NY City to Mystic? Would it be the cheapest to take a bus?

Mystic is easy to get to from NYC. Driving is about 2 - 2 1/2 hours, right up I95. Mystic is in Connecticut, and Rhode Island is is the next state North of it. If you don't have a car, then probably the bus is the cheapest.

I can't imagine a bus ticket being more that $50 one way. But you can check the Greyhound website for fare and schedule. You would depart from the Port Authority bus terminal at 42nd street. It might be cheaper to rent a car for a weekend.

shareJust drive up Route 95 North the whole way and get off at Exit 90. You'll be looking at the "Olde Mistick Village" and the Mystic Aquarium. If you want to go to downtown Mystic then just take a right at the end of exit 90 and follow that road past the seaport until you can't go any farther. (about 2 miles altoghter) Take a right at that light and you'll be on Route 1. Follow that less than a mile to downtown! Oh yeah, by the way, I lived there for years.
shareThe most efficient way to get from NYC to Mystic is take the train in from NY and then bus out to Mystic from somewhere around the train station. Then you can bus from NYC to Rhode Island (which isn't actually an island..), but I'm not sure if a bus leaving Mystic would go directly to Rhode Island, but it's possible.
shareMystic is about 10 minutes from the Rhode Island border. Rhode Island isn't what most would think of as an island (Manhattan is also considered an island, even though it's connected to the inland)but it does hang out on quite a bit of water. The most efficient car route to Mystic from NYC? I-95, follow it right down the coast, or take the train (there is a station right in Mystic, or across the river in a town called "New London." New London is about 10 mins. away from Mystic. I think a train ticket from NYC in, runs about $23.00 one way---although that may have gone up.I may also be quoting the round trip price.I think a bus runs about the same price.) The most scenic car route (a bit longer, I'd say about an hour, hour and a half)is route 1, right down the coast. Route 1 is a beautiful drive. You can get onto it from the Merritt Parkway to I-95, I-95 has the exit. If you have any other questions, respond and I'll try to clarify!

just thought i would ask being a mystic pizza fan......the great pizza you talked about is it actually from the pizza place in the film or is that just a fictional place? Me and my husband were recently on holiday in boston from england and went to salem for the day, we went to the house of 7 gables and from the back of the house you can see marblehead(which is mentioned in the film) in the distance across the river so thats as close as ive been to visiting the mystic pizza film sites.

umm... no, manhattan is an island... it's only connected to the mainland by bridges & tunnels. :)
shareMystic is a great place to visit, Ines. Aside from the delicious famous pizza place, you have Mystic Aquarium, Mystic Seaport, and the Old Mistick Village. Then just a few miles away you have the USS Nautilus submarine museum (free) in Groton and up Route 2 about 10-15 miles you can get to the casinos. You can definitely plan a weekend stay in Mystic!

So, I will go to NY in January and I will also go to Mysic. I am so excited and cant believe it. As it is really cheap to go to Mystic from NY, I can easily do it. Does anyone have an adress about a cheap hotel (or whatsoever) / accomodation in Mystic? As I dont have so much money, I doubt, that I will be able to rent a car. So I wonder, if it is ok to be in Mystic without a car. I am good at walking, so I can walk to the locations and take a bus? Do you think that is possible?
