Usually these girl-lead movies are pretty gratuitous and over the top as well as not making the slightest effort to appeal to men. I watched this all the way through by myself (e.g. no GF running the remote!) and still gave it a 7. The storyline felt more ernest than the typical gimmicky rom-com garbage that comes out nowadays.

Julia Roberts looked pretty hot in this as well!

being a dude, got to say, I will stick around when the wife has this on - been watching this one with her from time to time since we were first dating - indeed - a "rom com" (think it is more a drama than that - anyways) that dudes can make it through fairly painlessly

Julia Roberts in the 90s always made everything a little less painful

I've always felt the same. It's one of the better "chick flicks" out there. In fact, I wouldn't even call it that. It's just a slice of life about young people in a small East Coast town. It has great re-watch value too.
