I always thought this was one of Raul Julia's best performances. He stole the show in a lot of scenes. How did he not get an Oscar nod for this?
(Needless to say, I don't think he'd beat Kevin Kline in Fish Called Wanda, but he was better than several of the other nominees...)
Raul Julia just seemed to love roles like this. He seemed to have fun with roles where he could ham it up a bit. This role was particularly great because he could switch from jovial to menacing in an instant. You'd be laughing at the ham and suddenly realize how scary insane he is.
