Cute Movie, hard to believe I never saw it till now, but anyways, thought it was a tad bit unrealistic that he could have hid a Money Belt with 300K the whole time. You would assume any good Bounty Hunter would do a thorough pat down for weapons and find it. And neither of them found it? Anyways...yes a bit nitpicky, and easy to overlook. Watched this Movie cause it had such good ratings and they were warranted....no pun intended.

Jack and Marvin were good bounty hunters who always delivered... but at the same time they were the two dumbest bounty hunters ever according to Jonathan Mardukas.

You have a point, but you know, when a movie (any movie) has some parts where you can go back in hindsight and say "hey, that probably couldn't have happened in real life" well, guess what, it's a MOVIE. If everybody argued a point about something "improbable" in a movie, then they should do themselves a favor and stop watching movies. Go watch the news for some real drama - And even that is embellished, sometimes. Ok, screw movie theory now.
My two cents on why Jack Walsh may have missed the money belt on The Duke.
Walsh was under a lot of duress during the Duke's arrest:
a) he was lying about being a Fed while aiming a gun at The Duke in his house
b) the dog was trying to tear his ass apart.
c) he didn't know if there was anybody else in the house, other than the wife, that may or may not have been armed with a weapon
d) he was just checking for weapons on The Duke when he was patting him down. No way could he have imagined a belt loaded with $300,000. Jack has never seen this kind of money. He was about to hit the biggest payday of his life for $100k reward put up by Moscone's Bail Bonds.
d) he was just checking for weapons on The Duke when he was patting him down.
This was first thought as well (when I saw the film... in '88 ;). He was a cop, they look for weapons and things that might harm them. Money belts are worn like around the waist except under an actual belt... so you have a hard leather belt, the belt loops are sewn to a rolled material area that usually twice as thick as the rest of the pants, and an ex-cop that, like lockplay says, couldn't comprehend that kinda cash in the first place.
Oh, and it's a movie... some suspension of belief is a prereq. In this case, however, it seems plausible.

That $300K was not all the money the Duke had, just WAM that he might need if he managed to get away. The implication is that he ripped off Serrano for millions.
