Is this movie offensive to Christians?
What's so bad about it?
shareWell, there is . .
Such lines as: "Captive virgins in the hands of an impotent god." and "Poor, little virgins masturbating in the dark."
Spitting on a crucifix.
Raping of nuns.
Mauling of Christ on a cross.
And perhaps, the best, or worst example, notice how the scout emblem on Kevin's (Pitt's) hat looks something like a cross. And we have at least the murder and rape, and maybe the possible emasculation, of an young, Christian boy scout.
On the other hand . . .
I think those Christians who are offended do not understand the religious beliefs of the director, Ken Russell. He does not object to individual Christianity, "She doesn't go to Church or any of that--but, she's quite religious is Eve." He objects, like alot of people, to organized Christianity, like some aspects of the Catholic Church, and to anything that smacks of organized Christianity, like the scout movement in the U.K.
And, unlike in some films, such as "Dagon," he does allow the Christians to win out in the end.
