Lair of the White Worm: Chapter I

As I was given a copy of the novel by Bram Stoker upon which the film is based, I thought I start a list of the similiarities and differences, one chapter at a time, between the book and the film.

The book's equivalent of Angus Flint, is Adam Salton. While both of them are islanders, Angus comes from the Orkneys off of Scotland, and Adam comes from Australia. While both are approximately the same age, Adam is 27 and Angus is somewhere between 23 and 30, Adam is a horsebreeder, while Angus is an archaeologist.

The reader also meets Adam's great-uncle, Richard Salton who has no equivalent in the film.

While the film takes place probably in the 1980's, or the time that it was filmed, the book takes place in the 1860's or about forty years before the book was written.

While the film takes place in Derbyshire to bring it closer to the area associated with the Lambton Worm, the book takes place in Staffordshire.

To be continued . . .

The Lampton worm comes from Durhan, not near to Staffordshire and even further from the Peaks where the film was located.

Yes, thank-you for pointing that out. Technically, I suppose that Durham is not that close. it is just because our country is so large, we Americans sometimes think of distances differently. But, as Staffordshire is for the most part west of Derbyshire, and Durham is north of Derbyshire, I tended to presume the film's location is closer to Durham, then the book's location. Especially, as I have always felt the film took place closer to Sheffield then Derby.
