And why drown the perfect candidate for a virgin sacrifice?

This one I might have the answer for. When bitten, the paralysis apparently does not last forever, but wears off; therefore, she did not want Kevin, when his paralysis wore off, to wander about the house, when she had unexpected company over.

Any other answers?

Perhaps she thought it was the police again, and didn't want to risk him looking in and seeing a paralyzed boy in the tub. The officer is not likely to look under the thick bubbles in the bath, but he might have been able to hear, or see the boy whimpering with his head above water.

Interesting venom. It seems to affect everyone differently.
