Boogie Nights connection...

Don Cheadles character "Buck Swope" in Boogie Nights gets his last name from the Robert Downey Sr. film Putney Swope (1969), a favorite of director Paul Thomas Anderson. Putney Swope is shown in the Drive In Theather scene in "Johnny Be Good" & Robert Downey Sr is also a star in the film. Robert Downey Sr's characters name in Johnny B Good is "Floyd Gondolli" which is Philip Baker Hall's characters name in Boogie Nights. Robert Downey Sr is also in Boogie Nights. Pretty interesting....guess PT Anderson liked Johnny B Goode.

Long time for a post-continuation - but Johnny Be Good also has the great Seymour Cassel in it - who also pops up in Boogie Nights. I've never caught the name Floyd Gondoli in this film, but I'll take your word for it ReillyFIlms - nice catch.

To take it further, the director of this film Bud S. Smith is an Oscar nominated editor who edited Downey Sr.'s aforementioned Putney Swope. Smith worked on a number of great films.

There' something incredibly light and free-wheeling about this flick that makes it easy to watch again and again. Given the editor bit above, it's clear the rhythm and pacing of the film is what makes it so infinitely viewable. It's also cool to see Anthony Michael Hall play against type for a change - he does it well here (only 5 years removed from Rusty Griswald and and 3 years from Gary in Weird Science). Also the late Paul Gleason rules in this one (not to mention an 18 year old Uma - heat!)

Floyd Gondolli is also mentioned in PTA's first film Sydney aka Hard Eight. And if you look closely, whenever Robert Downey Sr. is in a PTA film he's "a prince".

I doubt PT Anderson likes this POS, I would say Downey Sr. came up with the Floyd Gondoli name, or similar goof off from someone else.

It's Robert Downey Jr., not Robert Downey Sr.

Oh, and this movie sucks big time. The film books give it only one star. lol

You don't read so well, do you?

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?
