This movie is everything a slasher movie should be

A group of teenagers, stuck in 1 location at night, theres a psychopath picking them off one by one with creative kills. Its shot really well, i like the location alot, an old grocery store at night makes for a perfect setting for a slasher movie imo. Dan Hicks does a fantastic job, both as the lovable boss that gets along with everyone, and as the psychopath he later becomes.

The gore is amazing in it, that scene where the guy gets his head sawed through the middle is one of the best effects i've ever seen in a slasher movie.

Imo its almost a perfect slasher movie, and definitely one of the best from the 80's that many probably don't know about.

Just discovered this winner on-line searching for another horror film...
Holy crap this was great -especially the cool camera angles (very artsy for a hack and slash!)
The music and lighting were spot on, acting good, gory kills were awesome...
Plus we get the Raimi Bros, Estevaz, Campbell...
True slasher gem i found by accident!

Yeah its one of the best slashers from the 80's, and if you haven't got it yet you should definitely pick up the Synapse Blu Ray Directors Cut of the movie. The picture quality is amazing on it, almost makes it look like a new movie, plus all the parts of the kill scenes that was removed are put back in, theres a great documentary about making the movie, and in one of the interviews Dan Hicks says he's ready anytime for a sequel which was cool.

Decent picture quality and good audio...pretty sure it was uncut
That bandsaw scene yikes!!

Some pretty amazing camera choices and the gore is better than sufficient.

Those are the two standout points. Alongside The Evil Dead connections.

The only thing it's missing perhaps is nudity, a slasher staple.

It's from the Coen/Raimi pedigree, so it stands out among the late 80s slashers. It's been a while since I've seen it, but I don't recall nudity in it. A slasher MUST have at least one scene of a topless or, even better, fully nude woman either showering or skinny dipping, or getting schtooped in bed, otherwise, it is an incomplete slasher.
