No wonder the original changed so much from the novel.

I used to own this movie. It's apparently based on the HOWLING novel, the same as the original, but this movie is more faithful. That book must have sucked big time because this is one of the worst horror movies ever.

It might be worth mentioning that this film doesn't follow the plot of the original Howling novel completely...it just follows it more than the 1981 film did. The original 1977 novel was MAGNIFICENT, it's just that this film was a poor adaptation of it. The original 1981 film adaptation wasn't particularly brilliant either in my opinion, but that's more because it strayed so far from the source material and really became quite a different story. Had I never read the book before I saw the 1981 film, I probably would have liked the film a lot more.

I suppose its the same case with Peter Benchley's "Jaws" or Stephen King's "Salem's Lot"....the filmed adaptations become something different and aren't quite as character-driven so fans of the books are often disappointed (though I do love those two particular adaptations).

It's not the best of the series, but I didn't think it was awful. It's certainly worth what I paid for it.

I personally preferred this movie to the first one. To me the worst part was the old time music that they played in it. And the novel was actually good.

I am not a troll, but I believe in them since I see them every day on IMDB.

I like the original movie much better too, but I don't think this one is anywhere near being one of the worst horror movies ever. Particularly when compared to the other Howling sequels I've watched, II and III. Those are much worse.

I guess it's more enjoyable if you've read the book, since it's a pretty faithful adaptation for the most part. Not that the book is anything to call home about.

I prefer 2&3 over this one. At least they're fun and don't take themselves seriously. This one is basically garbage and just makes the 1st look better if anything.

Agreed. It isn't as bad as many people make it out to be. But it's hard to defend it because it wasn't good either. The last 15 minutes are the only good thing about it. However, the ending was too rough. They should have had a much longer and more engaging showdown. I disliked the fact that the blonde guy was killed so abruptly. If they were going to kill them, they should have had a much more intense showdown between him and the wolves. I felt the same way about the lesbo blonde. They should have given her death a bigger build up.
