shareThe original is the same story, told differently. It is not a musical, but there's a lot of great 60s songs in it. It's campier and more over the top than the toned-down 1997 version. Tracy is less of a Pollyana in this version as well. If she gets pushed, she comes out swinging. The kids in this movie don't look like Broadway dancers but like they really could have been Baltimore kids in the 60s. It's a wonderful film. I also think Penny is more interesting in the original.
shareThe older version has a similar plot, but in my opinion the story line is told a lot better. I think the older one is more entertaining. I didn't really like the whole goody-goody story line to the new one, and found the 2007 version to be a huge let down compared to the 1988 version. I highly suggest seeing them both, because as the previous poster said, they are a lot different.
shareHow can you possibly like the new movie better if you haven't even seen this one? You're not making any sense!
shareI really liked the 2007 version over this one. I found in the '88 version there isn't as many musical numbers as in the 2007 version.

Studying accounting is difficult and tedious!
Of course there aren't any musical numbers... it is not a musical!

The original is a million times better.
Travolta just couldn't fill Divines shoes. He dragged the whole movie down. Everyone else was ok.
