Obsessed, filming locations, and seeing John Waters in the airport
First off, I love this movie. I was born in Baltimore, and my mom danced a few times on the old Buddy Deane show, so it has a special place in my heart. :) I'm so obsessed that every time I go back to visit relatives, I have to stop by the filming locations. The places that are still there:
Tracy's home - not "exactly" as it was, but it's still there
Hefty Hideaway is now Stella's Bridal; still at 3311 Eastern Avenue
The station - the building and the stage door are still there! I took pics of myself there... had three people help me with where this place was.
The Auto Show building - is still there but is so rundown - it's not in the nicest area of town
The high schools they used are still there; didn't go there... didn't really even care.
The Parkville VFW is still there. The inside is COMPLETELY different, but the outside hasn't changed at all.
I don't know what part of town Motormouth's shop was in... anybody?
Also went to the Senator Theater, where John Waters premieres all of his movies.
Divine's grave is in Towson at a small cemetery.
If ANYONE is going to be in the area, write me and I'll tell you where all these places are.
Lastly, I was at LAX (airport) a few weeks ago and John Waters sits directly across from me. OMG. I started to shake, then went up to him and told him how much this movie means to me... and then got a picture with him. I then turned away and started bawling... lol, and calling everyone I knew. It was so surreal. He's just as you would imagine him... completely amazing and down to earth... and still with the Baltimore accent. It's great.
