I'd have to say that the Von Tussles are my favorite characters, too.

The Beatniks (Ric Ocasek and Pia Zadora).

Penny's parents, Mr & Mrs Pingleton;
the purse-weilding abusive mother in the principal's office ("happy now?" SWAT!!);
Edna Turnblad;
the mean teacher in Special Ed;
the mean teacher who sends Tracy to the principal's office because of her hair;
the principal who sends her to special ed because of her hair;
the beatniks;
Dr Fredericks (black boys? ZAP! NEGROES?!?!?)

Waters is great at sticking little side characters while the main ones take a breath or two.

I'd never seen Debbie Harry do comedy before. And I didn't recognise Bono. I had to check the ending credits to see if it was really him who playing Mr Van Tussle. They were good together. And Debbie's first hairstyle in the film was a riot. I think that the teacher who said that Tracy's hair was 'hair-don't' should have seen that.
