yeah i know it's hard - i loved the scenery in this and the mood it creates, but it is really rare to find something that has that same romanticism about it. i dont really think i'm gonna help you out much on this - i just empathise!
things like The Beach have beautiful beachy scenery but obviously that film's in a very different vein from The Big Blue.
I don't know what else you're into - I tend to have pretty varied taste but something else i love is Don Juan DeMarco. Content wise it couldn't be more different - it's effectively a lighthearted romance but with Johnny Depp and Marlon Brando, who in my opinion both make anything watchable, though in this case it's a good film anyway. It's not particularly by the ocean (though it does feature) but it's a very romantic film and visually gorgeous - very exotic, lush and rich with colour. I've noticed it's something you either get or you don't - it's about a young, sensitive and charismatic guy (Depp) who believes he is Don Juan and is consequently supposedly treated by a weary psychiatrist on the verge of retirement (Brando). As 'Don Juan' starts to tell Dr Mickler about the course of his wildly romantic life with such passion and conviction, Dr Mickler is drawn in to his stories and much to our delight believes that what he is told is true. If you're creative and a dreamer you'll find this a beautiful, touching and uniquely passionate film - it's good for the soul. It doesn't because of its nature have anything like as much depth as The Big Blue, and is a bit of a chick flick - I'm just talking visually - i don't want to overlook the greatness of The Big Blue! Worth checking out though. Anyway just an idea - though if you do come up with something let me know!
Thanks
