French Song in Disco II - Update

Hi,

I’ve been gone a while (busy elsewhere) but I haven’t given up.

It’s still early days but a potential lead no less!

sweetau kindly emailed me the sound byte from the movie and I’ve been playing it for various French friends that I know.

One possible suggestion is an artist called “Mylène Farmer” but there is some doubt. I am checking on it and as soon as I get more information I will advise.

The good news is that one of the French people I have played it for really loves it and has joined the search. Maybe this will aid the cause.

Should anyone want to listen to the track or send the link to someone who might be able to track the song down, the link is….

Well done Coolhandphil. Looks like we may be getting somewhere. Ive got A-level French (which means not a great deal) and I'm still pretty convinced the song is definitely French. As the film is effectively set in the South of France, I think it's more than likely it is indeed French. Im suprised theres nobody from the making of the film who can help (when you consider hundreds of people must have been involved) who checks these IMDB boards --- (unless there is...?)

A little while ago I began to doubt if the song was actually French. I thought it might just be a pop song made to song French, but I've had it confirmed from my French friends that it is French.

That said, I've downloaded a lot of songs by Mylène Farmer and it's not her who sings this song. So, the search continues continuing...

OK guys, an idea - anyone know of a French equivalent of the this website - ie. a French IMDB. Or just a huge French messageboard/forum of some type where we can post the link!?

reply

this guy has got the right idea!! good stuff, we need to focus.

some more ideas are needed, we can also improve on this start.... i think we need to add some still photos of the scene in question where this mystery song plays.... communication is visual.. if people see the pic's, they will remember the movie and remember that scene (which is etched in my memory but maybe not with other people)

also a french translation of your wording... a french link to the answer we want is very possible and if they dont know english all that well... it cuts the percentages down when dealing with what i think is an "100% french song".

does anyone else have any ideas, im wondering if some has experince in making that website more visable to the world. how can we start getting more
"hits" and increase our chances of success. im convinced "the truth is out there"

otherwise this is an excellent start, lets keep the ball rolling guys.

( i had no idea there was 2 separate messages boards on this subject, i said this on the old messagebaord)

I'm suprised this hasnt been mentioned but...has anyone thought of trawling the internet in French. I've just discovered on amazon.fr that DRS in French is known as "Le Plus escroc des deux" (which kinda translates as: "the worst crook of them both") which is quite intresting. Gonna hunt for some french websites where I can use my awful french skills to post requests.

reply

I'll take some screen prints and get them added to the site.

I'm not sure on how we can promote the site better? I'll have a think about it.

I've searched on the French Amazon before but it's quite difficult to find something you don't know. I might start writing comments of French releases pointing people to the website.

Dont know if anyone saw the other thread to this but: dominik-agolli said:
"My best friend is a director in L.A. and I will ask him to give me Steve Martin's agents tel number.

Hope it works."

I honestly think this is the best idea. If anyone knows where we can get contacts for Martin, Caine and all, let us know.

Oh baby I'm gettin' excited....

Hey, I am the one who originally posted this question. Brilliant to see such a great response for this post.

Just wanted to say to 'coolhandphil', the sample of the song on your site is not the one i was originally looking for, its the slow song played right after that one.

Its the slow song when michael caine kisses the girl on the dance floor.

I got 'Celui Qui S'en Va'. Thats not it either....

reply

I believe the faster song (ie, the one sampled by coolhandphils website) is the one we're generally all looking for. The slow one is definitely celui qui s'en va by Marie Myriam. I bought the album.

reply

i think we are all after the faster song... euro disco beat... im sure someone has this song on a tape or LP or maybe mp3... by now !!
