Mad Magazine characters (Spoilers)

Does anyone know if this movie was influenced at all by Mad Magazine's comic strip "Spy vs. Spy"? I know this movie was a remake of "Bedtime Story" from 1964 (which I've never seen), but "Spy vs. Spy" predates that movie by four years, and...

*SPOILER ABOUT ENDING*

... it sometimes featured the inclusion of a third spy, a woman who always defeats both male spies (she also appeared in the 60s before "Bedtime Story" was released).

What about the nine kids I DIDN'T lose this week?"

Yes it was influenced by the Spy vs. Spy vs. Spy comics. If you notice in the train scene Freddie is reading an issue of Mad Magazine, and the issue he is reading happens to contain a compilation of Spy vs. Spy vs. Spy (with the female gray spy). It could be coincidence, but more likely it was the directors way of foreshadowing what was to come.
