Yellow Glove and Jelly

Lawrence says:" what did we do whe uncle ted was her"
Ruprecht starts put on a glove and a jelly on a glove.

So what was he trying to say they were doing when uncle ted was there.

reply

His uncle used to put his finger up Ruprecht's bum.

isn't it possible that "uncle Ted" was the nickname they told Ruprecht for the doctor to make him relax? ANyway, the whole point was to make the woman from Oklahoma uncomfortable. I'd say it worked!

Me fail English? That's unpossible.

Well, IMHO it meant that Ruprecht assaulted Uncle Ted with the rubber glove/jelly combo (prolly trying to probe Uncle Ted's cavities), and then Ruprecht had to apologize for sticking his finger in places they weren't supposed to be.

In any case, I don't think it was even meant to lead to a certain conclusion. It was just meant to be totally bizarre and over the top and to put horrible images about what was going in in the "royal mansion" into that woman's head.

But then again, I could be utterly wrong.

I agree with sascha-17...it's not meant to suggest anything specific. I won't even mention the various things you could imagine three men doing with rubber gloves and lubricant. It's a two fisted joke. You laugh once at the absurdity of Reprecht's suggestion that there was a rubber glove and lubricant involved with Uncle Ted's visit, and then you belly laugh when Michael Caine, the voice of reason and sanity, admits they did that. It's a great gag, classic Steve Martin absurdity, maybe a little low on the scale of good taste (like, below zero on that scale....hahaha).

reply

Yeah but you have to imagine that Ruprecht did something Ted didn't like because Lawrence says "No, what did we do after that? We apologized."

reply

"It's a two fisted joke."

Ouch!! Pun intended?

reply

wainot: No, but thanks for recognizing my comedy genius. Had I meant to make a pun, I would have said ***** <joke hilariously funny but too low on the scale of good taste to post on IMDB>.

I watched it for the first time in ages last night, and the woman in that scene was Ruth Fisher from Six Feet Under (Frances Conroy), never realised.

reply

it was barbara harris in that scene, ruth fisher was another woman that was in the scene immedately after. i believe you're supposed to assume barbara harris had already been freaked out, and now it was ruth fisher's turn.

reply

the lady in that scene is billed as the woman from oklahoma and she plays gretchen in malcolm in the middle the german lady that owns the ranch that Francis works at she was also in Kingdom hospital playing that doctor that kissed that horrible bloke

I love this movie. What ever happened to comedies like this one? Now they are all filled with gratuitous nudity, penis/ball jokes, vomiting, poop and drunkenness.

reply

rhyannon33: That's a really odd comment in a thread appreciating the value of rubber glove and lubricating jelly. You must be working on your Steve Martin comedy material.

reply

i'd have to say.....

hahaha pwn3d :D

delt - I think you mean "I must say..."
That's Martin Short's Ed Grimly character. Martin Short doesn't appear in this movie, tho he and Steve are frequent co-stars.
