"To prevent Ruprecht from hurting himself, and others."
Then he pokes himself in the eye- I love that scene.

Now Ruprecht, what did we do when uncle came to town?

(Ruprecht proceeds to put on a rubber glove and coat it with lubicrant)

No Ruprecht.... after that.

(The Female guest looks on with incredulous disbelief)

reply

"May I go to the bathroom?

Thank you."

reply

I also love the detail that Ruprecht sits a little bit lower than the others.

reply

"May I take your trident, sir?"
"Yes."

"Someone has been tampering with Hank's memories."

Ruprecht.

*Ruprecht smashes a vase.*

Ruprecht!

*Ruprecht smashes another vase.*

Ruprecht!!

See it just doesn't look that funny written out like a script lol, it takes comic genius to deliever. How come Frank Oz never gets the credit he deserves for his directing? He's fantastic, his movies have such great imagination and he seems to get the best performances out his actors.

Notice the scornful faces that Steve Martin makes as he smashes each vase. The one he makes as he smashes the last vase is especially funny. For me, those faces make that little bit of business and it wouldn't work nearly as well without them.

This scene is possibly one of the greatest comedy sequences ever written. Even now, if I call my mum "mutherrrr" in Ruprecht's voice, she cracks up laughing. It's like our secret code and it's all thanks to this film! Nobody else gets it but I just think it's pure comedy genius!!

I do like the way Martin says just a single word when Lawrence says he's going to be married- "Really?" -and somehow makes it funny.

"I was left in no doubt as to the severity of the hangover when the cat stamped into the room."
