rickman

why oh why was rickers not cast in malcovich's role. waaaaahhh it would be perfect. ripping off the corsets u just know he loves heaving bosoms who agrees

Capable serious actor though he is, no - you're thinking too much of his cartoonish role in the cringeworthy Costner film.

Sadly Rickman wasn't cast because he wasn't well known, especially in the US. He played the role of Valmont on the London stage for over two years and he would have been perfect for the movie. In my opinion he is a better actor than Malkovich, and he has a lot more sex appeal. I could believe all of those women going gaga over him.

Saw Rickman as Valmont on the NY stage (with Lindsay Duncan as the marquise). He was stunning.

I saw Rickman on stage in London, and was totally blown away by him. The seduction of Celine, which is a bit more graphic in the play than in the film, had the audience breathless; you could have heard a pin drop. Shame he's not in the film, though Malkovich is good.

He was offered to reprise his role but turned it down to make Die Hard.

What? Who? Rickman was offered the film role? Or a play version again?

reply

The film role. Check out the trivia section.

IMO Malkovich is very good in the role, but I'm sure Rickman would have been very capable as well.
