is this a good christmas movie?

I saw this movie mentioned on a couple "best christmas movies" lists but it doesn't seem to be a christmas movie to me. What do you guys think?

There's nothing overtly Christmas about it, but I did get the itch to watch it at this time of year. I chalk that up to it taking place in New York in the winter. Just something about a movie set in that time and place that makes me want to see it during the cold months.

do you mean that it's not related to christmas at all? Is it even set during christmas? why is it on some "best christmas movies" lists?

I just watched it, and I'm trying to remember, but I don't think there was anything "Christmas" about it. The only thing I can think of that makes it a list frequenter is that it's set in New York City in winter.

You know, Dude, I myself dabbled in pacifism once. Not in 'Nam of course.

This movie had no Christmas themes in it. I guess people think that because there's so much snow in some of the scenes.

I haven't watched this in a while. I actually can't remember if it had anything to do with Christmas.

Not sure why this would make anyone's Christmas movie list. Has nothing to do with Christmas.

Was it during the Christmas season of the year it was released?

reply

Nope. Looks like it was released in June of '88.

Maybe you're thinking of "Trading Places".

I also immediately thought that it was confusion for "Trading Spaces." Which has extensive Christmas props and scenery.
But maybe, yes, "Trading Spaces" could be a nice Christmas movie- if you'd enjoy the image of a drunken Santa Claus biting into a huge smoked salmon pulled from inside his filthy fuzzy Santa suit!
Ahhh, the Holidays...
