Feel Good Movie?

Is it just me, or is Cocktail one of the darkest films that's made in into the mainstream pop culture? For example, Doug steals his girl (which prompts the move to Jamaica), he then blows all the rich girl's money on the markets, Brian cheats on Jordan (after getting her pregnant), he then plays the rich chick for all she's worth, Brian then returns to see Doug who is in a depression and kills himself and then Brian shacks up with Jordan in a dive in the back streets of New York to bring up their new baby (twins).

I just think that people view this as a feel good movie, it sure didn't make em feel good, it left me a bit disturbed.

It was an empty, fabricated, predictable and cliched but a VERY ENJOYABLE CLASSIC. I think it ranks with Flashdance.

with the exception of the scenes from Jamaica/Caribbean..the movie for the most part is depressing, depressing use of color, depressing props, depressing scenery, weather, depressing plot

You're giving it too much credit. The characters are so shallow that the plot can only achieve but so much "darkness." Every character in this film has an IQ of about 88, and they all operate at this base level. You can only be but so disturbed.

I agree. This movie has a weak plot: get rich and stay rich. Also, the characters are cliched and predictable for a Tom Cruise movie. All Tom had to do was play a cute, tomboy with absolutely no gimmicks: I don't think I saw him cry when he discovered Doug's body on the boat, but I could be wrong.

This movie is not the greatest movie ever made but at least it isn't entirely boring.

I don't think so, but didn't Flanagan cry though when he read the letter he found that Doug left for him...I think Flanagan really cares even though he's a doucheb@g for most of the movie..

This was the epitome of vanity for Tom Cruise. It was a good thing he did Rain Man and Born On The Fourth Of July after this one.If not,he won't be a big star and would have been a flash in the pan in the 80's. It was just a follow-up movie that capitalized his stardom after Top Gun.
