Never Understood Why...

Why did Brian attend the art showing with Bonnie (where he fights with the sculptor), when we find out right after the fight that he had already moved all of his stuff out of her apartment that day?

One could argue that Brian was still holding out hope that she would come thru and get him a sales management position at her firm that she continually dangled in front of him, but nope, that gets shot down too, when they are arguing out on the sidewalk:

Bonnie, in a desparate attempt to keep her boy-toy dangling even longer after he tells her he's moved out and hands her her apartment keys: Brian, listen baby...I've got some interviews set up for tomorrow.

Brian: Forget it! I am not a salesman! I tried to sell out to you, but I couldn't close the deal.

The writing was on the wall. He probably promised her that he'd attend the showing with her and, to keep his word, did so, but knowing that would bring his commitments to her to an end and he could make a clean break.

Ehh maybe, but do you really think Brian was intent on keeping his word to the skank he cheated on Jordan with, in the first place?

Obviously he moved his stuff out without telling her, so I don't think he was terribly concerned about the clean break.

In fact this is pretty much confirmed by what he tells her on the sidewalk:

Brian: Talk is overrated as a means of resolving disputes.
Bonnie: Please, I don't want to end it this way.
Brian: Jesus, everything ends badly, otherwise it wouldn't end.

It's impossible know. However, cleaning his stuff out in advance confirms the clean break, not contradicts it. They break up. He does not have to go back to the apartment to get his stuff or see her again. It's over. Nice and clean.

The quotes you quoted mean nothing. Relationships end badly because feelings are inevitably hurt. That's all.

LOL...allright chief, whatever you say.

Either way you wanna slice it, to live with an older chick for a VERY short time, and then sneak all of your stuff out of her apartment one afternoon while she's working....and THEN after all that, attend an art showing that same evening when you have no intention of going back to her place with her...I found rather odd.

It was odd, but it happened. Either it makes absolutely no sense due to a lousy screenwriter, or we viewers have to supply some sort of solution. It was definitely different. Although, a lot of people save the breaking up conversation to the last possible second, if it all. They are like "No, everyting's fine, everything's fine.." and then WHAM!

I actually watched this the other night on one of the Cinemax channels and I actually thought to myself that I thought the film had alot of stuff edited out of it.Probably for pacing reasons or whatever. But the point you're talking about it felt like we could have seen some more of how it led up to his decision to do that.It was like it cuts away from his bet and then it's like okay he's been living with Bonnie for awhile and then we're at the art show and I was like what?I mean we didn't even see a scene where Bonnie asked him to come back to New York with her and she would get him a job.He mentions it to Doug, but that was it.I just felt that too much was left off camera. Now I don't know for sure if stuff was filmed and left on the cutting room floor or not,but it just seemed to me watching this that something was missing.
