why is this film generally discarded?
I thought it was pretty OK. I thought the chemistry between the actors was good, and that Cruise was definitely not miscast for this role.
I'm kinda surprised because i know a lot of people who think this is one of their fave Tom Cruise movies...I know it's one of mine...I think it's good music, good moves and a decent love story...the chemistry was excellent for all the main characters...
I dunno...maybe I'm just wacky...lol

People get too caught up in this "movie critic" style of looking at movies ... if a movie keeps you interested, makes you somewhat attached to the characters, and has a plot that doesn't make you fall asleep, who cares ???
I personally enjoyed this movie. You get what you want out of the movie ... for anyone that has worked in the bar scene or enjoys a cocktail every now and then, it's enjoyable. For anyone that remembers the late 80's with fondness, it's enjoyable. For anyone that was totally enthralled by Elizabeth Shue in the 80's (which I definitely was), this movies is absolutely for you and VERY enjoyable. Face it, it's an alright film, not Tom Cruise's best, but not made out to be. The guy's not Shakespearre, so don't be surprised by his lack of intellect in reciting a poem ... lol.
