Brian's apartment in New York

Did anyone else find it strange that the same apartment he, Coral and Doug were talking about going to Jamaica in was the same apartment he comes home to after being in Jamaica for who knows how long - several months at least? Someone as hard up for cash as this guy is going to keep his flat in NYC paid up so when he comes back it's just sitting there clean as a whistle, no cobwebs or a hint of dust just waiting for him to come home.....sure.

Well, when Brian met Doug in Jamaica, Doug mentioned that they hadn't seen each other in 3 years (probably since their fight, when Brian quit). Brian had previously mentioned about spending summers tending bar in Jamaica, and spending winters back in New York, so that may have been what he was doing for the past 3 years. He probably kept his New York apartment for the winter, and maybe rented it out for the summer.

It's funny, though, that he was out of touch with Doug for those whole 3 years, since they were both in the bartending business, and didn't know he'd gotten married.

Wasn't he renting the apartment from his uncle?

Was he? Maybe that would explain why it was still available when became back. Still - I'd think his uncle would try to get some sort of revenue out of the flat instead of it sitting empty while Brian's away.

I've seen this movie hundreds of times. I don't know how I missed that! What scene is it? (set the scene - who is in it, where are they) Now I'm gonna have to watch it closely the next time it's on cable. Thanks!

It's at the very beginning of the movie, when Brian goes to see Pat at the bar. I know he leaves for Jamaica after that, but I think it's safe to assume that his uncle would do the same thing.
